W.A. Mozart - Piano Sonata KV 333 in B flat Major

K. Szymanowski - Masks, Op. 34

INTERMISSION

F. Chopin - 4 Ballades

Hide
W.A. Mozart – Sonata in B flat major KV 333
  Allegro
  Andante Cantabile
  Allegro grazioso

This lively, yet lyrical sonata was written during Mozart’s return to Vienna in 1783 together with his new wife Constanze.
K. Szymanowski – Masks, Op. 34
  Scheherazade
  Tantris le Bouffon
  Don Juan Serenade

These highly contrasted and dramatic works explore the unique elements of Orientalism and Spanish culture. They were written in 1915-1916 and express the complex nature of various characters and their "masks".
INTERMISSION
Fr. Chopin – 4 Ballades
  No. 1 in G minor, op. 23
  No. 2 in F major, op. 28
No. 3 in A flat major, op. 47
  No. 4 in F minor, op. 52

The ballades are among the most dramatic and finest works of Chopin. Widely believed to be inspired by the Lithuanian ballads of Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz, they are in fact worlds of their own combining traditional forms with poetic expressions.
