:: We Were Invited to a Rare Concert
On Sunday December 16th, we witnessed a rare artistic event. It was rare because never before has our hall been so packed with an audience to experience Polish music with performers of the highest stature.
The only barrier between sharing Polish literature to a worldwide audience has only been language. But with music it is different –music uses a universal language which does not need translation. This is why we greatly appreciate the conductor and director of this recital Andrew Rozbicki. He was able to put together such a concert because of his passion and intelligence. Rozbicki is able to bring into Canada the best artists of the world. He has proved this before and tonight he has proved it again. But this time he was the first in Canada to inaugurate the 150th anniversary of Chopin’s death which was proclaimed by the International Chopin Society. He also had a great idea, to bring in two of the best musicians of Polish origin in the world today.
Piotr Paleczny- who we know as a remarkable Polish virtuoso pianist, a previous winner of the International Chopin Piano Competition, juror and Daniel Wnukowski, a young, extraordinarily talented pianist from Canada.
In this way, the best tradition of the Polish school of performance was presented to our Canadian audience. We really felt this clearly during Daniel Wnukowski’s performance who with his youthful energy, captured the heart of the audience. Aside from his seventeen years of age, he is already a mature pianist representing an extraordinary high level of performance.
About Piotr Paleczny, I can say that I rarely have the opportunity to hear such beautiful Chopin interpretation. The Celebrity Symphony Orchestra was torn away with their ravishing performance filled with bravura. With great satisfaction, I often took glances at the faces of the public. I could see how emotionally involved the audience was, and especially the performers. They gave everything of themselves, and timing was impeccable among the musicians of the ensemble. I believe this performance will remain in people’s hearts for a long time. We all left the concert hall with enthusiasm and proud that every single seat was filled at the Living Arts Centre, and were amazed at how long the audience kept clapping to thank the artists for this rare and wonderful concert.
