Renowned pianist, Daniel Wnukowski, will be performing a concert together with his wife Marta Potulska, a violist. Daniel Wnukowski performs in prestigious concert halls across Europe, Asia, and North America, including the Wigmore Hall in London, UK, the National Philharmonic in Warsaw, Poland and the Concertgebouw Music Hall in Amsterdam, Holland.
He met his wife, Marta Potulska, during a performance of the ‘Trout’ quintet by Schubert in Vienna, Austria. She played the viola part and the two eventually collaborated in many more concerts throughout Europe. The viola is an instrument slightly larger than the violin, which produces a deeper, warmer and more seductive tone.
Mrs. Potulska, who has decided to retain her stage surname ‘Potulska’, started taking violin lessons at the age of six in her hometown of Lodz, Poland. There she also worked very closely with the Wienawski String Orchestra, which gave her the opportunity to perform all around Europe and the United States. She is also a laureate of several international viola competitions.
Wnukowski’s last appearance in Windsor was in May 2010, when he performed Chopin’s 2nd piano concerto together with the Windsor Symphony. It received a standing ovation as well as critical acclaim. The upcoming concert at Mackenzie Hall will feature highlights of the viola repertoire including the warm and expressive Sonata in E flat major, Op. 120 by Johannes Brahms and the hauntingly beautiful Kol Nidre by Max Bruch.
